Julian Edelman extends thanks to Patriots for new contract, continues to impress with work effort

FOXBORO — It was the type of play that, maybe another player in another practice setting, would simply let go by the wayside. But Julian Edelman doesn’t really do the whole “half effort” thing. During yesterday’s offseason practice on the fields behind Gillette Stadium, Patriots quarterback Tom Brady threw a ball that was slightly behind Edelman as the wide receiver was covered by Stephon Gilmore near the sideline. Edelman then leapt back, twisted in the air and reeled the ball in for a completion. It may not have had the degree of difficulty of the deflected ball he caught just before it hit the ground on the game-tying fourth-quarter drive in Super Bowl LI, but it showed how Edelman prepares
