NFL notes: Saints reported to be near deal with Peterson

The New Orleans Saints are closing in on a one-year, $3 million deal with running back Adrian Peterson, NFL Network reported Monday. Peterson was the seventh pick in the NFL draft 10 years ago by the Minnesota Vikings and has been selected to seven Pro Bowls, has four first-team All-Pro honors and three rushing titles. He was the league MVP in 2012, when he ran for 2,097 yards — second-most in NFL history. But he turned 32 last month and following his injury-ruined 2016 season and a contract that called for him to make $18 million, the Vikings released him.
