Browns Sign Guard Paul McQuistan

According to multiple reports the Cleveland Browns have signed free-agent guard Paul McQuistan to a two-year contract. McQuistan, 30 years old, will be entering his ninth NFL season in 2014.

McQuistan was a former third round draft pick by the Oakland Raiders in 2006. He started 12 games, while playing in 35 games during his four year stint with the team. McQuistan was previously contracted by the Browns in 2010, but was released just weeks later. After spending a short amount of time on Cleveland’s and Jacksonville’s roster, McQuistan signed with Seattle in 2011. In his three seasons as a member of the Seahawks McQuistan has started 40 games, including his 2012 season in which he started all 16 games.

McQuistan has experience playing at both guard positions, along with multiple starts at the left tackle position through his career. The Browns current depth at the guard position includes; John Greco, Jason Pinkston, Garrett Gilkey, and Jeremiah Warren. Greco has started 24 games in three seasons with the Browns, but missed two games in 2013 with an injury. Pinkston started all 16 games in his rookie season but has battled injuries and health problems the past two season. Gilkey started one game in his 2013 rookie season, while Warren has yet to appear in any games during his career. The McQuistan acquisition helps the Browns fill a big hole on their offensive line, as they lost starting guard Shawn Lauvao to the Washington Redskins in free agency.
