Colts offseason notes: Reserve/Future Contracts are in full force

The Colts offseason started earlier than what they expected which means some players are in full force on trying to find a team that are willing to sign them. For practice squad members, it is harder for them to sign with another team and expect to make the 53-man roster by the end of next season’s preseason.

For six of the eight practice squad members, the Colts guaranteed them a contract which means that they will have a spot in the offseason events like training camp and OTAs.

Those six practice squad members are Guard Zach Allen, Center Thomas Austin, Linebacker Alan Baxter, Cornerback Marcus Burley, Quarterback Chandler Harnish and Tight end Martell Webb via George Bremer of The Herald Bulletin.

The Colts also extended a future/reserve contract to Guard Lance Louis. Louis played for the Miami Dolphins and Chicago Bears throughout his career. Louis tore his ACL during the 2012 season when he was with the Bears. During the 2013-2014 offseason, Louis signed with the Dolphins but was quickly released before the regular season started.

Depth in the interior offensive line is crucial for the Colts as both guard positions and the center position were the weaknesses in the Colts offense. Hopefully one of the players (Austin, Allen or Louis) that were signed for a future contract can provide some needed help in the interior O-line.
