Dolphins Have Fired GM Jeff Irleand

Add this to the list of  moves the Miami Dolphins have made in the past two days. After finishing with an 8-8 record and losing the last two games, it was clear Stephen Ross was not pleased with what took place on the field.

On Thursday, Ross met with the coaching staff and  front office to discuss what happened. First, offensive coordinator Mike Sherman was let go and now the Dolphins and Jeff Ireland have parted ways. They will begin an extensive search to fill the position. Many analyst think this will be a position sought after. Dawn Aponte, vice president of football administration is in charge as of now.

During his tenure,  Ireland was a Bill Parcells disciple  and in 2010 he gained complete control as general manager. The Miami Dolphins made the playoffs once out of six seasons and are 35-45 since he became general manager. Many think assistant general manager Brian Gaine will be promoted to the position.

The Dolphin fan base has never been happier, you may have forgotten but the fan base paid for a banner to fly over the stadium twice to let Ross know how they felt about Jeff Ireland. They even went as far as to protest outside of the team facility in Davie, Florida. Another instance of fan hatred for the GM, a verbal altercation took place after a fan told Ireland, ” you should fire yourself” in return Ireland called him an “asshole”.

During the 2010 draft, Ireland conducted a pre-draft interview with wide receiver Dez Bryant and asked him if his mother was a prostitute. Ireland later released a statement apologizing.

Who knows what will happen now as the Dolphins enter the 2014 off season, but one thing for sure is the Dolphin fan base can rejoice and have blind faith restored.
