Report: Josh Freeman Likely to Make Decision Sunday Night, Multiple Teams Interested

Josh_FreemanIt shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise that former Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Josh Freeman has received a lot of interest on the open market after being granted his release last week. A talented quarterback who has had success in the NFL is a hard find during this point in the season.

NFL insider Jay Glazer is reporting that a number of teams are interested in him. According to Glazer, the Buffalo Bills, Minnesota Vikings and Oakland Raiders have expressed interest. Common logic seems to suggest that Freeman would compete for a starting gig on all three teams, especially with EJ Manuel out for six weeks with a knee injury in Buffalo.

With that said, both the Green Bay Packers and San Francisco 49ers are among the teams most interested in Freeman, who wouldn’t sniff the starting lineup on either team barring an injury.

Freeman’s decision is two fold. Does he want to compete for a starting gig immediately or is he open to learning behind good quarterbacks and great coaching staffs? That’s ultimately going to be the biggest part of this whole process as it comes to a head.

CBS insider Jason La Canfora reported early Sunday morning that Freeman had narrowed his decision to three. He only mentions San Francisco, Minnesota and Buffalo in the report.

Glazer is reporting that the Vikings are the most likely destination for Freeman. He’d likely compete with Matt Cassel for the starting job with former first-round pick Christian Ponder being the odd-man out. If so, that opens up another topic of discussion. Would Ponder then be on the trade block and who would express interest?

As it is, expect breaking news at some point this evening.
