Cam Newton Questions His Own Leadership Ability

In a sign that Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton just doesn’t get it, check out his quote after Carolina lost to the Buffalo Bills earlier in the day…

Carolina is now 0-2 on the season after what has to be considered a deflating late-game loss at the hands of the Bills and rookie signal caller EJ Manuel. Newton’s response after the game is yet another indication that he has failed to take a leadership role on an under-performing Panthers’ team.

From sulking on the sideline last season to placing blame on other players and the coaching staff in the past, Newton just doesn’t seem to get it. Despite a ridiculous level of talent, Newton’s perceived lack of maturity is catching up with him. Newton is now 13-21 as a starting quarterback in two-plus seasons in the NFL.

Interestingly enough, some may start to question whether he was even the best quarterback in the 2011 NFL draft, especially if Colin Kaepernick continues to do what he has been doing since taking over as the San Francisco 49ers starter last October. Heck, we might be at that point right now.

Continued quotes like the one embedded above may actually result in the Panthers’ brass drawing a conclusion that Newton isn’t their quarterback of the future. At the very least, the remaining 14 games of the 2013 season are going to be huge for him.
