The Baltimore Ravens waived wide receiver Laquan Williams and lost Bobby Rainey on waiver to the Cleveland Browns today. This gives them one open active roster spot and a practice squad of seven players who were originally cut a few days ago, of which five are undrafted rookie free agents.
TE Matt Furstenburg, IL Brandon Copeland, OT Jordan Devey, DT Cody Larsen, and OT Joe Unga were all resigned on the Ravens practice squad. Furstenburg was a standout beyond veteran Raven Billy Bajema during preseason and will probably be moved into the active roster spot once Dennis Pitta is activated on the injured reserve list. Copeland, a local favorite from Gilman, had an NFL highlight in the first preseason game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with an interception and 32 yard return and had 5 tackles after being thrown into an OL position once OLB D.J. Bryant suffered a season-ending knee injury in the last preseason game against the St. Louis Rams.
Omar Brown returns as a potential backup in the safety position after being beat out of his position by undrafted rookie Brynden Trawick. Center Reggie Stephens also with 2nd year eligibility for the practice squad will be on the hook to learn the plays should Gino Gradkowski and A. O. Shipley fall short, although not likely, during the season.
The Ravens did their best to keep the players familiar with their playbook in a look forward of another promising threat to the AFC in general.
