Matt Barkley, a recent stand out at USC (University of Southern California) has more than enough talent to become a starting quarterback in the NFL. The real question most of us NFL fans are asking is if the Philadelphia Eagles provide the right place for the young, talented quarterback.

With the 98th-overall pick — Round 4 of the 2013 NFL Draft, the Eagles selected Barkley. He threw for exactly 3,273 yards and 36 touchdowns as a senior at USC — his second-best season as a Trojan. During his junior year, he threw for over 3,500 yards and 40 touchdowns. After Barkley’s junior year he decided to finish out his college career and not enter the 2012 NFL Draft. If he would have done so, the chances of him being on the Eagles roster would be slim to none.

There are a few quarterbacks that are currently competing with Barkley for the starting position. Those players include Michael Vick, Nick Foles, Dennis Dixon, & G.J Kinne. Lets be honest, you can count Kinne & Dixon out of the competition. Those two players are very unlikely to make the final roster come final cuts. Chip Kelly brought Dixon in due to the his familiarity with Kelly’s Oregon offense while he was the head coach of the Ducks. Perhaps he has him there to mentor the other four.

The Eagles could possibly have three NFL starting quarterbacks on their roster. This includes Barkley himself.

If Barkley would have been selected by Minnesota, Jacksonville or Miami, would he be a starting Quarterback already? That question has an easy answer. Yes!

Since he has to compete against Vick (A running sensation) and Foles (A scrambler with a lot of promise in his arm) he may not be the starting quarterback of the Eagles for a few years.

If Barkley is given the chance to be the second-string quarterback, you will see Matt hit the field more than once this season. If he is a third-stringer you will not see him touch the field at all — unless luck is on his side. His chances of being a starting quarterback this season at the helm of the Philadelphia offense are very slim. If Vick and Foles do not have the season that Eagles fans want out of them, you will be hearing “Barkley” roaring from the stands of Lincoln Financial Field.

Lets leave it to Barkley to prove many of us fans wrong. His chances might be slim this season, but his chances of being an elite quarterback in the NFL are higher than most might think. He has a rocket arm with a very raw talent of being able to read a defense within the blink of an eye. With having those two skills, you could easily become a Matt Ryan or a Joe Flacco in this league. We will just have to leave it to Barkley.
