Damario Jeffery’s Pro Day Results

Damario Jeffery 2

NFL Draft Series by PFC Blogger Chris Brown (@cbreezy2411)

As part of the rookie’s blogs here at ProFootballCentral we continue to talk with potential NFL hopefuls. Today we had a chance to catch up with South Carolina Linebacker Damario Jeffery.

CB:  Last time we talked, you were preparing for your pro day, so how did it go?

DJ:  I felt it went good, I was happy with my results for the day. There was a few drills that I wasn’t used to doing so I had to adapt to them, but since I’m athletic I felt I was able to adjust to them relatively quickly.  I didn’t run the 40 yard dash that I thought I was going to.  I had thought I ran a better time than the official time that had come out.  I believe that I got some scouts attention during my vertical jump.  I’m definitely happy with how the day went overall.

CB: What did you feel you really excelled in?

DJ: Well I’ve been really working on my pass coverage throughout my workouts for the past few weeks and it really showed.  There were a lot of drills where you had to drop back into coverage and I feel I excelled in that aspect.  We did drills where we would have to drop back in coverage down the middle of the field.  During these drills I was able to display my hands as well; I didn’t drop any passes that were thrown my way.  This shows that I have great hands and can make the plays.

CB: What did you like or dislike about the pro day set up?

DJ: I feel we could have done more linebacker type of drills but they are looking for people who can play on third down or as the “money” down as we call it.  So they wanted to see those types of drills being run, which is fine with me also because it’s all part of the game.

CB: Any scouts talk to you specifically during or after your workout?

DJ: I think they were pressed for time, they kind of all just left and they were rushing to get to state.  The linebackers were the last group to go, so after the drills they mostly scattered.  A couple of scouts were calling me out a little bit more during the drills and some may have had an eye on my more after my vertical.

CB: Was it nice to catch up with guys like Stephon Gilmore and Melvin Ingram who were your former teammates?

DJ: Honestly, it was great they were like my own little fan club cheering me on.  Melvin was telling me that a lot of scouts were impressed with vertical; he was encouraging me and telling me to keep doing what I was doing because it was the right thing.  Stephon as well he was doing the same thing, just kept me encouraging me.  It was great to see them; we all went out afterwards to Buffalo Wild Wings to catch up with one another.  It is always great to see those guys, being that they are in the league they know what to look for and help guide me in the right direction.  Those are my guys.

CB: Now that your pro day is over, how do you keep the motivation going and what are your plan from here on out?

DJ: Me personally I’m taking it one day at a time and right now just grinding and still training and preparing for how training camp is going to be.  Hoping and praying for the best is all I can do, sitting back and waiting from here on out.  I learned from my pro day to expect the unexpected, you never know when your going to get that call so you have to be prepared at all times.
