49ers’ Next Move?

It’s been roughly a week since Free Agency has been underway and the San Francisco 49ers have yet to make a big splash.  The two glaring positions that the 49ers need to fill are safety and corner.  With Dashon Goldson signing with Tampa Bay, most people (including myself) thought that GM Trent Baalke would jump at big names such as Charles Woodson and Ed Reed.  Moreover, since the 49ers’ secondary faced major coverage problems during the playoffs and Super Bowl – a big physical CB has become a vital need for them  to improve in the 2014 season.  Teams like  the Seattle Seahawks and St. Louis Rams are not that far behind.  The Rams took the 49ers into two over-time games last season (winning one and tying the other – thank you David Akers) and the Seahawks gave them a good beating in Seattle.  Look for San Francisco to fill these two major voids in the draft, and if the price is right, look for names like Charles Woodson, Nnamdi Asomugha or Ed Reed (maybe even two out of the three?) to be signed with incentive heavy contracts to help mentor the 49ers’ draft picks.  Do not expect GM Trent Baalke and coach Jim Harbaugh to get into a bidding war.  Those days are over, just ask Dashon Goldson.
