Bulger Likely Staying

Jim Thomas, of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, reports St. Louis Rams QB Marc Bulger will likely remain the team’s starting quarterback in 2009. Bulger impressed coaches during the team’s first minicamp two weeks ago. There are also financial reasons to keep Bulger around in 2009. The potential cap hit makes it almost impossible to trade or release him this offseason. If Bulger were to be traded, it would result in $8 million of “dead” money – money that counts against the cap for a player no longer on the roster. That figure grows to $11 million if Bulger is released, because $3 million of his base salary in 2009 is guaranteed.
