John Madden Retires From Broadcasting

John Madden, former coach of the Oakland Raiders and long-time color analyst of NFL telecasts, has decided to retire from broadcasting, NBC Sports said Thursday. In a statement, Madden said “It’s time…it’s still fun and that’s what it makes it hard and that’s why it took me a few months to make a decision.” Madden, 73, has been an analyst on NBC’s  “Sunday Night Football” broadcasts since 2006. His 30-year broadcasting career also included stints at CBS, Fox and ABC. He won 16 Emmy awards for his work. Cris Collinsworth will succeed John Madden as the analyst in the NBC broadcast booth for the network’s Sunday night NFL game telecasts, NBC executive Dick Ebersol announced during a conference call with reporters on Thursday.
