Jets Deny Favre Given Months To Decide Future

Erik Boland, of Newsday, reports a New York Jets spokesman refuted a report by Sports Illustrated’s Peter King, who said general manager Mike Tannenbaum told QB Brett Favre he needn’t “rush” his decision to return and that he can take “months” if necessary. According to the spokesman, the team hopes to have an indication from Favre by the time the NFL Scouting Combine begins Feb. 18. Favre has two years left on the three-year contract the Jets inherited when they acquired him from the Green Bay Packers. Favre is due $13 million in 2009. Should he retire or be released, the Jets, who are over the salary cap, would receive cap room they desperately need.
