Herm Edwards Fired Shanahan Favorite To Land Job

Herm Edwards has been fired by the Kansas City Chiefs, according to ESPN. Edwards was hired by the Chiefs in 2006 and that season lead the team to their only playoff appearance in his three seasons as head coach. In 2008, Edwards led the Chiefs to a 2-14 record, the worst in his coaching career. Overall, Edwards was 15-33  with the Kansas City. Prior to the Chiefs, Edwards spent five seasons with the New York Jets, posting a mark of 39-41. The news comes just two days after defensive coordinator Gunther Cunningham announced he was leaving Kansas City after accepting a position with the Detroit Lions. ESPN’s Chris Mortenson is also reporting that former Denver Broncos head coach Mike Shanahan is close to negotiating a deal that would name him the new Chiefs coach.
