Brees Wins AP Offensive Player Of The Year

New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees was recognized for nearly breaking one of the NFL’s hallowed records, winning the Associated Press’ offensive player of the year award on Tuesday. Brees threw for 5,069 yards, just 15 short of the record Dan Marino established in 1984 with the Miami Dolphins. The two are the only men to throw for over 5,000 yards in a season. Brees threw for a career-high 34 touchdowns and completed 65 per cent of his passes, with 17 interceptions. New Orleans finished just 8-8, but the team had several injuries to offensive players. The quarterback, who turns 30 next week, received 22 votes in balloting by a panel of the sport’s writers and broadcasters.
