QB Russell Questionable To Face The Panthers

Oakland Raiders QB JaMarcus Russell (knee, questionable) missed Raiders practice Friday. “He’s got a little tendinitis, I guess, he had it in college,” coach Tom Cable said. “Just being smart, that’s the bottom line.” The Raiders could go run heavy if Russell is out, which is what they should’ve been doing since Cable took over because that’s their offensive strength. If Russell can’t face Carolina, it’s unclear who will start because Andrew Walter (calf strain) is injured too.

Ryan Torain Confirmed To Be Lost For Season

The agent for Denver Broncons running back Ryan Torain confirmed Friday that his client torn his ACL in Week 10. He will be placed on injured reserve, ending his season. Torain’s tear is said to be “clean,” but the rookie has now suffered serious knee and foot (Lisfranc) injuries in one year and is unlikely to be viewed by Denver as a potential feature back again.

Ravens CB McAlister To Miss Rest Of Season

Baltimore Ravens CB Chris McAlister will miss the rest of the season after deciding to undergo surgery to repair a torn PCL and other knee problems Friday. After getting opinions all over the continent, McAlister is shutting it down. It’s fair to speculate this was not the Ravens’ first choice and friction between the two sides didn’t speed along his recovery. McAlister, a former Pro Bowler, is due $8 million next season.

Redskins Agree To Deal With DeAngelo Hall

The Washington Redskins agreed to terms with CB DeAngelo Hall on a one-year contract. Profootballtalk.com reports the deal is worth $1 million prorated over the rest of the season. Washington has agreed not to franchise tag Hall in 2009. It’s the best possible move for Hall, who will make exactly the base salary he would have as a Raider and can try for a multi-year deal next spring. He will not, however, ever get the kind of money Oakland signed him for. Hall will probably start out as a dime back behind Carlos Rogers, Shawn Springs, and Fred Smoot.
