Phillips Could Miss Up To Six Weeks

PA SportsTicker reports Tampa Bay Buccaneers SS Jermaine Phillips (arm) will be sidelined up to six weeks with a broken left forearm. Phillips was sidelined for the final five games of the 2004 season because of a broken right forearm.

Preliminary Hall Of Fame Nomination List Released

The preliminary nomination list for the 2009 Pro Football Hall of Fame class has been released. Among the 133 nominees, former Buffalo Bills DL Bruce Smith, former Pittsburgh Steelers CB Rod Woodson and former Denver Broncos and Baltimore Ravens TE Shannon Sharpe headline the first-year eligible players. The list includes 110 players, seven coaches and 16 contributors, including former commissioner Paul Tagliabue and longtime team owners Bud Adams, Jerry Jones, Art Modell and Ralph Wilson. The list will be reduced to 25 semifinalists that will be announced later next month.

Steelers Plan To Start Holmes

Alan Robinson, of The Associated Press, reports the Pittsburgh Steelers plan to start WR Santonio Holmes in their Week 9 game.

Taylor Out For Week 9

Ryan O’Halloran, of the Washington Times, reports Washington Redskins head coach Jim Zorn has ruled DL Jason Taylor (calf) out of the team’s Week 9 game.

Chatman Placed On IR

The New York Jets have announced they have placed RB Jesse Chatman (knee) on Injured Reserve, ending his 2008 season.

Addai May Play Week 9

Indianapolis Colts head coach Tony Dungy said there is a chance RB Joseph Addai (hamstring) will be able to play in the team’s Week 9 game.

Lions And Culpepper Talking Turkey

ESPN’s John Clayton reports Daunte Culpepper and the Lions have entered contract negotiations.Per Clayton, the talks are just beginning and Culpepper hasn’t made any salary demands. Though he left the facility without an agreement, signs are pointing towards Culpepper wearing a Lions uniform this season.

Pittman Questionable With Bruised Ribs

The Denver Post states that RB Michael Pittman will likely be questionable for this week’s game with bruised ribs.

L.J. Likely Out This Week, Possibly 3 More

ESPN’s John Clayton believes that Larry Johnson will face roughly a three-game suspension after meeting with Roger Goodell Tuesday. The decision may not come for a week, but the Chiefs have already indicated that Johnson won’t play this week against the Bucs.

Chargers Fire Defensive Coordinator Cottrell

The San Diego Chargers announced that Ted Cottrell has been relieved of his duties as defensive coordinator and will be replaced by linebackers coach Ron Rivera. Rivera, who was previously defensive coordinator for the Bears, will take over play-calling for a unit that has allowed 25 points per game after giving up just 18 per game last season.
