Heading into Fridays opening of training camp many questions still remain in Buffalo. The biggest question is whether All-Pro Left Tackle Jason Peters will continue to hold out. Peters failed to report to the other off season camps, all of which were optional. Peters is arguably the best offensive lineman in the NFL, but is the third highest paid offensive lineman on the Bills roster.
I believe Peters should report and wait his turn in line to get paid. He was just extended a couple seasons ago and still has three years remaining on his current contract. The Bills need to focus on signing Wide Receiver Lee Evans and Linebacker Angelo Crowell who will be free agents at seasons end. The Bills should definitely pay Peters but after the other two are secured. The Bills have the money after selling over 54,000 season tickets this year and receiving $70 million to play in Toronto the next five seasons.
Peters absence for any period of time could really affect the cohesiveness of this pretty young and solid offensive line. When Peters went down with an injury the final two games of last season, the offense suffered. He is vital to this team who likes to grind it out with Marshawn Lynch. He also protects young quarterback Trent Edwards blind side, his abscense would really hinder the progress of this young team. He needs to man up and show that he is a team leader and get to camp on Friday.
