Yes: He is the greatest quarterback in the most historic team’s history. He gives the Packers their best chance to win. Aaron Rodgers is an unproven quarterback, and he may turn out to be another Rex Grossman. The Packers window to win a Super Bowl is open with Favre at the helm, while it will be closed for a few years with Rodgers at the helm before it starts to open again. If Favre wants to play, (Packers General Manager) Ted Thompson should be welcoming him with open arms. The Packers were just one win away from the Super Bowl last season with Favre at quarterback.
They got more dangerous this off-season with the additions of rookies WR Jordy Nelson and TE Jermichael Finley. They return everybody from their potent offense a year ago, and this year, they will have receive, hopefully, a full season out of playmaker WR Greg Jennings. They return pretty much everybody except for DT Corey Williams on their defense, so there is no reason not to expect an 11-12 win season from the Packers next season with Brett Favre at quarterback.
No: People are tired of this Brett Favre saga every single off-season. It is Aaron Rodgers’ time now. He has waited patiently for three seasons now and it is unfair to him to make him put up with this. Brett Favre retired, and now it is Mr. Rodgers’ neighborhood. You have to feel bad for Thompson. Whatever he does is going to draw criticism. If Favre comes back, and the Packers don’t want him back, then he may want a trade and then he’ll be known as “the GM who traded Brett Favre.” If Favre stays retired, then he’ll be known as “the GM who forced Favre to stay retired.” But Thompson isn’t the reason that Favre retired in the first place. Every year Favre comes back, it sets the Packers back a year in Aaron Rodgers development.
So, that is the burning question. Should the Packers want Brett Favre back?
