Baltimore Ravens tight end Daniel Wilcox writes for ProFootballCentral.com and gives us an inside glimpse into his world in the latest My Words edition.

Comments on Jonathan Ogden’s Retirement?
J.O.’s Retirement came as no surprise to me. I spoke with J.O a lot, last season and he stated to me that this year would be no option but at that time, he had no idea that Brian Billick wouldn’t be here so I know that he wouldn’t make it back now. What for??? Why would be???

He has done everything that he can accomplish and he has 12 consecutive Pro Bowls and a Super Bowl Ring and we all know he will be in that 2013 Hall Of Fame class. Plus he’s in too much pain to want to continue this punishment for an extra season. J.O. is the best offensive lineman that I ever step foot on this field with, and I am proud to say that I Daniel Wilcox lined up next to him. May The Lord Bless Johnathan Ogden and his family, now he gets the opportunity to be a better husband for his wife and a better father to his kids…  Much Love J.O.
Will this team suffer from Steve McNairs and Jonathan Ogdens retirement in same year?
What team wouldn’t suffer with such a huge loss? I’m sure we will miss them both but this team is extremely blessed with talent, so we will be just fine. However, I promise you some where along the way we are going to feel the effects of not having each of them on this squad…
How are the QB’s looking?
Kyle Boller is still bolling his way into the starting lineup.  Kyle is much more mature than I’ve ever seen him. I honestly wish he wasn’t rushed into starting as a rookie. I think his confidence level would be through the roof and he should’ve had the same situation as Chad Pennington, a veteran QB to sit behind for a couple of years.  Kyle look’s great and I feel like he has brought into what Cam and Hue is trying to teach them…

Troy Smith… The City of Troy.

Now this man is a straight up beast and he has the work ethic of a world champion. I’m excited to see what’s going to happen with him this year, he has shown that he’s willing to fight for that starting Q.B. job and the only thing is, is that Boller isn’t going away without a fight, I really can’t wait to see how this one turns out…

Joe Flacco…

Okay folks, I know this is what ya’ll have been waiting
on. Smokin Joe, this kid has a rocket launcher for an arm and he can straight out throw the ball. Joe isn’t as mobile as a Kyle, and definitely not as mobile as Troy but he has amazing potential… lol… that brings to mind what my coach told me when I was a rookie. He told me that I have all the potential in the world, but all potential means is that I haven’t done anything yet…
How is your health?

My Health is coming along fine physically I feel pretty good. The toe is starting to feel much better although I’m still in plenty of pain and discomfort. I feel like I’ve kind of been at a stand still for these last couple of weeks. I’m heading to see one of the top specialists in the state next week. I can’t wait to hear what he has to say. I’m really excited about this upcoming year so I can’t wait to get back onto the field.
Do you feel with a new head coach that every position is up for grabs?

Every Position is absolutely up for grabs, life is an absolute blessing and the lord has a plan for us all and he wouldn’t place anything on us that we could not handle and it is an absolute blessing to be able to play in this league. So fighting for a position is nothing new and unless your a 1st rounder fighting is probably all you know.

The fighting allows us to play at our best, without competition we have nothing to prove and nothing to play for. If it was easy it wouldn’t be a challenge so I feel blessed to have the opportunity to compete so in other words bring it on.

Any standout rookies so far?

I’ve definitely been impressed with Joe Flacco (5), Ray Rice (39), Justin Harper (14) and Patrick Carter (15) has all impressed me very much.
What have you been up too?

Oh the usual been very busy. I’m in an Airport in Philly now and I just left Mt. Laurel New Jersey, coming from the NFL’s own Broadcast Boot camp, I was among the few players selected from the NFL to attend this prestigious event. Total there was 20 of us broken up in groups of 4. It was pretty much 4 days of pure broadcasting and it was amazing.

There was a long list of stars that came to teach us the world of Broadcasting. In that list included, Dick Maxwell, Glenn Adamo, Bill Brown, Vaughn Bryant, Steve Cohen, Gus Johnson, Howard Katz, Tiffany Montgomery, Beasley Reese, Steve Trout, Via Sikahema, Greg Cosell, James Brown, Adam Schefter,Dick Vermeil, Rich Eisen, Roland Williams, Russ Tucker, PT Navarro, Ike Reese, Ron Jaworski (Jaws), Soloman Wilcots, Howard Deneroff, Brian Baldinger, Ian Eagle, Kenny Albert, Ray Anderson, and a host of other really helpful people. What I’m trying to tell you is in 4 short days we were absolutely bombarded with information. I had the opportunity to learn broadcasting from the best. I feel extremely blessed…
I was immediately placed into a group when I got there, Group B. My group included my teammate Derrick Mason Baltimore Ravens (WR), Ron Rice Detroit Lions (S) retired, Mike Rosenthal Miami (OT), Mark Campbell New Orleans Saints (TE), and myself. I had an absolute blast.
Before the boot camp I had a chance to go to my hometown of Atlanta to kick off my bachelor weekend. My weekend started off with a surprise roof top Gala Event. I felt absolutely blessed to be loved by so many friends and family members. Meredith from World Bride Magazine, Irita Edwards, and my Best friend Kareem Young, threw one hell of an event for me. I was showered with love, praise, and awards. I was even given my own official Day, who ever said doing community work won’t pay off? I felt so blessed.

June 13th is officially Daniel Wilcox Day in Dekalb County and I even got a brand new watch deal from Young Blood Time Pieces so look out people, for the New Special Edition Wilcox watch in the next couple of years. It’s going to be hot.

Thanks all of you for tuning in to share in some of my world. I feel blessed to be able to tell you my world, I hope you feel blessed to be apart of it. Also don’t forget to tune in this Wednesday night on Pro Football Central Radio because yours truly will be on live hanging out with Jim Giles!

 God Bless…
