With the Denver Broncos recently firing General Manager Ted Sundquist, they have made it abundantly clear to head coach Mike Shanahan that if they don’t succeed this season, then it will be Shanahan who will be next to go, sources tell ProFootballCentral. Under Mike Shanahan’s current leadership, the Broncos have made the playoffs twice in the past 10 years and were an abysmal 7-9 last year. Owner Pat Bowlen reportedly may have set the bar so high for Shanahan that making the playoffs may not be enough, and that reaching the AFC championship game may be what will save his job. The 45-year-old Sundquist supervised pro and college scouting, and was responsible for salary cap and contract analysis and to have him fired in March with the draft so close, you have to look at this as Bowlen doing whatever it takes for his franchise to be successful right away.
