NFL.com reports San Francisco 49ers QB Alex D. Smith is not guaranteed the starting quarterback position in the upcoming 2008 season, according to head coach Mike Nolan. “It will be an open competition,” Nolan said. “It’s no one’s job to lose. It’s both guys’ job to take.”This past weeks PFC Radio guest, 49ers QB Shaun Hill is expected to compete with Smith for the starting job.
