Free-agent quarterback Mark Brunell has reached an agreement in principle to join the Saints this season, league sources said Thursday evening. The deal will be for two years, but Brunell has not yet signed the paperwork, a league source said. Brunell, 37, visited with the Saints on Monday night and Tuesday. He’ll likely replace veteran backup Jamie Martin on the roster as Drew Brees’ understudy. The Saints also unsuccessfully recruited Trent Green, who signed with the St. Louis Rams, instead. Brunell had been released by the Washington Redskins last week.
