The Jacksonville Jaguars have recently traded former Pro Bowl defensive tackle Marcus Stroud to the Buffalo Bills for a 2007 third round and a fifth round pick. With the trade the Jaguars think they are comfortable handing the reigns to third year defensive tackle Tony McDaniel. McDaniel, played three games last year due to a wrist injury, at 6’7 295 pounds looks to be in great shape heading into the off season program.
Last year, Stroud was suspended for four games due to a violation of the league’s policy on anabolic steroids and related substances. He also missed several games due to injury. Marcus went through Micro fracture Surgery on his right ankle and never looked anything like he did in 2004-2005. This is the second below par year for Stroud as he under whelmed in 2006 as well. Marcus, as he’s turned 30, went from career years between 03 and 05, averaging 40 solo tackles and at least 3 sacks versus 19 solo tackles and 2 tackles over the last two seasons.
A big question that seems to be swirling around Buffalo is, did they make the right choice by trading so much for Stroud? To calm everyone down at One Bills Drive, I will answer that question with a resounding no!
The Bills ended the 2006 season trading disgruntled running back Willis McGahee to the Baltimore Ravens for Baltimore’s third and seventh-round picks in the 2006 draft, along with the Ravens’ third-round pick in this years draft 2008. With that third round pick that they got from Baltimore, the Bills selected Trent Edwards who is there new starting quarterback. With that 2008 third round draft choice, the Bills used that to acquire Marcus Stroud, which pretty much means; in the big picture the Bills traded Willis McGahee for Trent Edwards and Marcus Stroud.
Not a bad deal for the Buffalo Bills.
