Source Belicheck May Face Year Long Suspension

May 8th, 2008 · No Comments

New England Patriots head coach Bill Belicheck may face a year long suspension from the NFL, if the tapes do indeed incriminate previous statements that the coach made to league officials, sources tell Pro Football Central. A report claims that the tapes sent by former Patriots video assistant Matt Walsh do show that the Patriots recorded the play-calling signals of five opponents in six games between 2000 and 2002. They included regular-season games against Miami, Buffalo, Cleveland and San Diego, and the January 2002 AFC championship game between Pittsburgh and New England. While the tapes reportedly include recordings of opponents’ offensive signals, an NFL official cited in Wednesdays Hartford Courant said Belichick did not admit to NFL commissioner Roger Goodell that the team taped offensive signals. Belichick had previously admitted to taping opponents’ defensive signals.

Colts Bring Back Rhodes

May 7th, 2008 · No Comments

The Indianapolis Colts have reportedly agreed to a one-year deal with running back Dominic Rhodes.
Rhodes was released after one season with the Oakland Raiders and the Indianapolis Star reported that he will return to Indianapolis with a deal worth about $650,000.  After helping the Colts to a Super Bowl title after the 2006 season, Rhodes signed with the Raiders as a free agent. He appeared in just 10 games last season, with two starts, missing the first four games for violating the league’s substance-abuse policy.  Rhodes managed just 302 yards with a touchdown on 75 carries and also caught 11 passes for 70 yards. In seven NFL seasons, he has 2,576 rushing yards with 20 touchdowns and 101 catches for 719 yards and a score.

David Diehl Signs New Contract

May 6th, 2008 · No Comments

John Clayton, of ESPN.com, reports New York Giants OT David Diehl received a new six-year deal Tuesday, May 6, worth $31 million. The deal includes annual escalator clauses that can increase Diehl’s salary between $750,000 and $1.1 million each year as long as he plays offensive tackle. It is unusual for teams to redo a long-term deal near the beginning of a contract. Diehl was entering the third year of his old six-year, $15.5 million extension he signed in 2005, which was scheduled to expire in 2011. Diehl made the transition from left guard to left tackle and the Giants’ management rewarded him for his success. The deal was signed before the draft but Diehl kept it to himself.
